How To Enable Dark Mode In Snapchat

People often get tired eyes when they use their phones late at night, but the harsh blue light from screens can also make it hard to sleep, give people headaches, and more. Many websites, apps, and smart devices have a dark mode that can be used instead. If you want to give your eyes a rest when using Snapchat, you can enable the Dark mode. Here's how to turn on Dark Mode on Snapchat for both Android and iOS users.
What is Dark Mode?
Dark Mode, which is sometimes called "night mode," is a setting that makes the app's colors darker. The dark mode could also be called "bedtime mode." This is the screen setting to use if you want to stay up late but don't want the lights on. Dark Mode can be turned on on Facebook, Snapchat, and other apps.
How to Turn on Dark Mode on Snapchat
Make Snapchat Dark Mode on an iPhone
In October 2019, just a few weeks after Apple added a dark mode setting to iOS, the popular picture messaging and chatting app Snapchat added a dark mode option for iOS/iPhone. Here's how to put it to use.
1. Click on your "Bitmoji" in the top left corner of Snapchat to go to your profile.
2. Choose the "Settings" icon (the gear) in the top right corner.
3. Scroll down and click on "App Appearance."
4. Tap on "Always Dark."
Make Snapchat Dark Mode on Android
Snapchat hasn't made Dark Mode available for Android yet, but they seem to update everything else. "Dark Mode" has been on iOS/iPhone for about three years (as of October 2019), so it's probably safe to say it won't be coming to Android.
But depending on where they are in the world, some users may be able to use Dark Mode (in beta mode). Maybe Snapchat found a problem that they can't seem to fix. We can't find out.
You might not be able to use Dark Mode with Android Snapchat, but you can try a different method.
To do this, you have to turn on "Android developer mode" and use "Settings" to force Snapchat and all other apps to use Dark Mode. Forcing Dark Mode in the OS may change how some parts of any app, like Snapchat, are seen.
Note: For Android 10 and later, forcing the OS to use Dark Mode doesn't seem to work with Snapchat. Maybe the Dark Mode update for Snapchat on Android worked with Android 9 and earlier. No one knows what the answer is.
Here's how to give it a try and see if it works for you.
1. Swipe your screen down and tap the "gear icon" (Settings) in the top right corner.
2. Click on "Display."
3. "Dark theme" should be on. It might say "Dark mode" on some phones.
4. Go back to "Settings" and tap on "System."
5. Tap the drop-down menu next to "Advanced," and then tap "Developer options."
6. Scroll down to the "HARDWARE ACCELERATED RENDING" section, then tap "Override force-dark" to turn on the option.
The "Override force-dark" setting in "Developer options" has replaced "Force Dark Mode" in the "Display" options menu, but it is very similar. The "forcing" part of "Override force-dark" keeps dark mode on all the time, so apps use the system's dark mode setting instead of the app's. This happens because the old "Force Dark Mode" setting in the "display" settings is now called "Dark theme," which some apps may not work with, and it doesn't turn off by itself. But, for some reason we don't know, Snapchat doesn't go black.
There are a few other ways to make Snapchat dark mode on Android that are a little out of date but still work. The "Substratum" app is one that is easy to download and use. But for Substratum to work, your Android device needs to be rooted.
Another app called "Blue Light Filter" is available in the Play Store. It doesn't add Dark Mode to Snapchat, but it does let you change the harsh light that comes from your phone's screen. The Blue Light Filter app doesn't require you to root your Android phone. Instead, it covers the screen like a film. Blue Light Filter is a non-intrusive way to lessen the brightness of Snapchat's lights.
Snapchat Dark Mode and FAQs
Does Dark Mode save battery?
Most people who switch to a darker theme will find that their device's battery lasts a bit longer. Using a lighter one requires more battery to power the bright colors, so it's not the best way to save battery life.
Will Android users ever get Dark Mode for Snapchat?
The answer to this question right now is that it is possible. Even though it's early 2022, Snapchat still hasn't said anything official about the darker theme for Android users.
If you use Android, you can certainly ask for Dark Mode by giving feedback to the developers. All you have to do is go to Snapchat Settings and tap on "I Have a Suggestion." Fill out the form, then tap the "Submit" button. The more people ask for a feature, the more likely it is that Snapchat will put it first.
