What is MagSafe?

In October 2020, Apple introduced MagSafe, promising a faster and more convenient wireless charging option than the widely used Qi charging systems.
So, what exactly is MagSafe and how does it work?
What is MagSafe?
MagSafe is Apple’s new wireless charging technology. It debuted with the iPhone 12 two years ago. It’s also directly compatible with iPhone 12 models and later versions of the phone.
To be more specific, MagSafe is a form of induction charging. It can deliver fast 15W charging, about twice as fast as the popular Qi wireless charging.
Similar to Qi, MagSafe uses inductive charging, with coils on both the phone and the charger lineup and wirelessly transfer electrical energy. But unlike Qi, MagSafe has a series of magnets to align the coils properly. That way, coils can be perfectly matched every time and the phone can be charged at a higher wattage (up to 15W).
How does MagSafe work?
As stated previously, MagSafe has an array of magnets. These magnets are placed around the phone’s internal charging coil, which easily senses accessories compatible with MagSafe, such as chargers, and automatically snaps into place.
It’s great that MagSafe only attaches to certified accessories compatible with MagSafe. That means users do not need to worry about the interference of other magnets.
The benefits of using MagSafe chargers and accessories
Using a MagSafe charger as well as other MagSafe accessories will give iPhone users full use of the phone’s features.
It’s true that the phones are still compatible with Qi-enabled wireless chargers, but chargers with MagSafe deliver fast 15W charging. As a result, you will save quite a lot of time charging the device. In addition, the precisely aligned snap-on attachment also erases the worry that your iPhone might not be 100% charged if it vibrates with, well, an incoming call.

Sum up
Wireless charging using the widely used Qi standard is convenient, but it seems inefficient. It’s not possible to know how well the phone and the charger are aligned. Users can get the highest charging speed when the phone and charger are perfectly aligned.
Fortunately, MagSafe solves that issue by guaranteeing the charger and the phone align perfectly thanks to the series of magnets surrounding the charging coils. It’s also important to note that MagSafe iPhones can still be compatible with regular Qi chargers.
Now, you clearly know "what is MagSage," right? That's everything for this post. Geeks Nation hopes you like it.
